Not tested at this stage, but after my old bag splitting up the mountain recently (lucky I had paracord!) I did the exact same search as you're doing and settled on the macpac torre. 80L, same overall spec as the cascade 75L but heavier fabric and no bottom zip. Crammed it absolutely full of all my gear I could find around the house just to see how it would feel and despite being heavy, it's comfortable and solid. I don't need the 80L for my gear, but it's nice to be able to take extra weight for someone else, or load extra animal into/onto it if need be. Plus it's on sale - was $399 until the 27th, so if you go in and beg they might knock the price back down for you ... possibly is still $399 for members?

As others have said, Osprey Aether AG 85l. Most comfortable pack I have ever used, not expensive and one of the best lifetime warranties around. Need more be said.

If you want a kick arse pack with a bit of volume these are the real deal. I have a little one and the 90 litre.

The frame is a light nylon that flexes a bit with your body, but supports a large load. You can take the pack off and just use the frame for meat under a meat sling, or slip the meat in between the frame and the pack, or stuff it into the pack. And you can change the packs.

Also there is a notch in the top of the frame to shoot off and this makes a fantastic rest on a slope.

They make another size bigger too.

Here's mine with the little pack still attached and a load on (the rifle was empty, and checked several times-just saying).

They are a bit spendy but well worth it if you are lugging a big load.

Just picked up at Wilderness Equipment Prion 85 from Further Faster in Christchurch. Aussie made. No frills, bombproof. It is 85L+, bigger than my previous Macpac Cascade 90L. https://www.wildernessequipment.com....on-85-m-olive/.

Will do a bit of a review after it gets a bit more bush time.

funny ya say that, it was a toss up between the Bison 90 and or these exo mtns, ive gone the exo to utilise smaller an bigger bags in future hopefully.

i ended up paying only a little more than the Bison price for the Exo, so not a huge cry, would of been a Bison for sure if i had to source from say America....

Me too, if I was to buy again, I’d go for the 90L model. The 75L is sometime just not quite big enough. At the time I purchased the pack I thought hard about the size, obviously not hard enough.

Anybody tried out the K2 Alpine Hunter? 2.2kg is pretty light for what looks to be a heavy duty pack.
