Maca49 I've got a lump from an old tear. Higher boots (Bestards) that give me good support and that are higher than where the lesion is has helped. I lace them up tight and that restricts any movement.

The Dr has told me that a vigorous course of physio might break the lesion down, but I figure I will just put up with it until the rest of my body packs up as well. Which is feeling like it might be soon.

Cheers for all the help lads. Never thought about the different lacing options, will be giving that a crack first!

I don't think that some socks or blister salve will help you. Salve will cure your feet but it will not make your shoes more comfortable. I think that the only solution is to buy new shoes. I am wearing palladium boots and, believe me or not, but I have never had any feet pain.

They look like punk rocker boots? I imagine they are comfortable, but how would they handle NZ conditions (mud, snow, rocks, clay, water, sand, sun)? Their website advertises them as "urban explorer footwear"?

the military used to issue KCB's (kiwi combat boot) which gave most people terrible blisters to the point some needed medical attention. A trick to get them comfortable was to get them absolutely soaking wet and basically wear them in. Once they're moulded to your feet they're ok.

I also found wearing the thin goretex socks/booties over normal socks worked really well and it was soooo nice having dry feet.

Taping the rub point on your heels with strapping tape worked ok too.

The army is getting some good gear now and the new issue boots are Lowa tacticals and I've never worn anything else so instantly comfortable, I only ever wear thin business socks in them and can go all day in the hills no problems. There is any Aussie website selling them at a reasonable price if you can't get a pair on the taxpayer. Lowa Z-6S GTX Boot
