I have an Olympus 770SW I'd be happy to part with. 7.1MP, drop/shock/waterproof. Accessories include a zip-up pouch, wall charger and car charger for battery, and memory card. It served me well, but has been sitting idle since I got a handheld GPS with built-in camera.

The G-series cameras from Canon are reliable, relatively small and take good shots when on auto (lots of manual as well, if you want to adjust everything). Anything from the later models should be good, e.g., G9 onwards. Not waterproof. Also, has a minimal viewfinder which is really handy when the sun comes out and you cannot see the lcd screen (most cameras don't have a viewfinder which is not ok for NZ's very bright sunlight).
