    I have done a good amount of tramping over the years and some good alpine hikes and winter traverses.... if ice is something you might encounter (usually more towards early spring) you should as a minimum have tooling to chip foot holds in Ice... I have been caught only once by Ice filled avalanche chutes blocking my route...well past 1/2 way of a week long trip... after that I always carried a light weight ice axe if there was any possibility of ice.

    @Shearer Thanks mate, just finished packing. Going to check rifle is shooting straight, couldn't help myself and had to go for one last hunt last night and shot good animal and felt it wasn't 100% so want to double check.
    Then load up in the morning and start heading down

    The Ice axes are a bit over priced... $100 each is more realistic
