Thread: Decent shooters gloves?

I recently bought some hunters element gloves at H&F, turns out my mate has the same pair too.
My hands were freezing while duck shooting and felt numb meanwhile my friend said his hands were sweet.
I dont know if ive got poor circulation or not, but i have trouble keeping my hands warm.

I've been wanting a pair of decent gloves that are warm and mobile. I've considered a pair of Kuiu. I have some of their gear and I do like it even though it's pricy.

Both for work and night shooting in the winter.

The fully dipped ones are great at blocking the wind.

These work well eh? The price is nice too!

As someone who really feels the cold, gloves are a bonus, but I find that keeping my core warm is just as important.

Any of the fully dipped cold weather work gloves work. The Ice Ninja ones MB linked to are also good.

Cheap enough to keep a pair in the ute, one in the workshop another in the general shooting box....

These are great.
Wore them in Canada while hunting on horseback. Not a lot to keep your blood flowing while sitting on your backside, or holding on to cold binoculars.
Got down to minus 10 C. Never had trouble with cold fingers.
These and possum merino socks are already packed for this year up there.

A couple of other tricks I sometimes use depending on situation.

1 - wear possum-merino fingerless gloves under full size waterproof gloves. You have to take the bigger gloves off to shoot, but it makes a huge difference to keeping your hands warm while outside the big gloves. Sometimes you can clip the big outside glove onto a wrist band with a bit of elastic, and just pull it off with teeth and let it dangle when you have your hands full.

2 - use the little rechargable heat pads just keep one in your pocket to put the hand in and keep it warm.

I used to struggle with cold hands glassing, waiting around in position for animals to appear and tried most options. I found down gloves ticked every box for me - perhaps not waterproof but certainly water resistant. Warm always and pack down small as

Those dipped gloves might be quite a good option, something that fits snug and not too bulky, while at the same time providing good insulation.

If its those working gloves you see in Mitre10 etc, probably not the best option for keeping warm. They won't actually insulate agains't cold. Anything solid that gives your fingers more surface area than they had to start with will suck the heat out of them rather than keep it in.

Those ninja/polar bear gloves are very warm. They’re not just a skin, they have a nice cosy insulation layer without being too thick.

Like all gloves, put them on before your hands start getting too cold.. much easier to keep heat than gain it back.

Yeah, they look like the sort that you see used by people who handle refrigrated and frozen goods. I see them wearing similar gloves in the supermarkets when they fill the freezers.

I have a kuiu pair and rate them well. While not waterproof my hands don't get cold even if wet, but have to say I don't do alpine hunting. Good feeling and can easily shoot with them on and use touch screen on phone without taking them off. I would buy them again.
