Go Native is terrible, bought them for last years roar and had to eat 2-3 to even feel like it made an impact, my old man had the same problem. Also the guidelines for boil time weren't accurate for us with the Jetboil Flash 2.0, after 15min on the boil in the bag was still cold. Won't be buying them again but unfortunately I bought a bulk load so have to try eat them before they go off.
I'm going through the process of trying all the Backcountry's- really enjoyed the Creamy Carbonara but again, need the 2 serve to fill me up.
Next on the list will be going through the Real Meals and Radix
When I was looking at the energy contents of Radix, Back Country and Go Native meals the other day I noticed the Go Native ones were a lot lower. I think it is expected that you have them with one of the mash or rice packets.
I also noticed 3 meal pouches and 3 mash pouches weighed noticeably more than 6 packets of Radix.
@SikaHuntaa as I said earlier...find the backcountry breakfast for two... there are two versions and the sausage n egg wit hbeans is great,I DONT EVEN LIKE BAKED BEANS BUT REALLY ENJOY THIS ... also try bulking out the tasty but not big enough meals with packet of 2minute noodles mixed in... works a treat.
dehy mashed spuds is another way to bulk it out for little weight or bulk.
75/15/10 black powder matters
Agree about the Backcountry breakfast. Tasted alright and seemed huge.
I like the omeals self heating meals for short trips. Not dried but saves taking a cooker so overall lighter and easier to work with. Taste better than a lot of the dried stuff.
they are all full of vege, therefore inedible!
A bag of sliced biltong goes a long way. Just watch that you drink water as you eat, because it makes you very thirsty.
Someone told me Radix were looking to go all vegetarian as they're targeting the hi performing athlete types with their products. She said stock up while they still have meat in them. Could be worth enquiring for the Radix enthusiasts
Has anyone tried the Outdoor Gourmet company stuff?
Pack out heavy
I was never a fan of the std Back Country meals but My wife & I share a family pack of Scrambled eggs for breakfast. The Outdoor Gourmet main meals they make are great, Just leave them sealed to cook for the max recomended time, We share 1 meal at night and have noodles as a backup if it's been a hard day,
From all the ones i have tried i have foumd that Radix are the best by way of taste, energy/calories for weight and also importantly amount of water needed to rehydrate, which is a lot less than the backcountry ones. This is important when it comes to tops hunting in summer when water is either carried up or hard to find.
Often add some filler with a pita if I am feeling particularly hungry.
