    Have a read over this thread. I ruined a cast iron pan in my early years and wish I knew how to re-season them properly back then!!

    The only reason they say they season their cast ironware with vege oil (both recommended oils are from GM crops from overseas) is so that they can appeal to the Vegan/vegetarian types out there, whereas mankind has been cooking proper food (i.e. meat) in cast iron for at least since 220 AD.....long before soy and canola oil were a 'thing'.

    My first thought was if you get a metallic smell / taste in a Dutch oven you need to hold the sheets tighter!
