What would they advantages of the green over the red be?
Always keen to add another torch to the fold.
Sent from my S7e
Deer eyes really 'pop' with green led.
Around the time when we were developing the maxtoch hunting torches we tested a few red and green output lights. Didn't do enough testing to be conclusive, but the red beam did not travel as far as the green, and bunnies were quieter with red beam than green. We didn't try them on bigger animals. US guys report green beam very good on 'hogs' out in open fields.
A Texas mate who does some development work with us on Maxtochs will shortly do a review on the red and green Maxtoch 2X variants - will post it when it happens. The red and green led 2Xs don't use the same higher (1500 lumen) output led as the white light 2X. The coloured leds are just 270 lumens so I suspect it will be more of a pencil beam, but range at 750-850m max is very impressive for coloured beam lights. We'll see what the review says..
From my understanding, green light is clearly visible to all target species, and also falls right in the sweetspot of our vision spectrum. i.e. less lux required on target for us to clearly see it.
Red is opposite, and is in effect invisible to game animals (much like IR is invisible to us), but requires a lot more lux on target for us to clearly see something. Hence why most red lights will not affect our night vision.
Will be interesting to see how exhaustive the review is.
@mudgripz awesome news on the coloured LEDs, will be first in line for a red one, animals don't give a hoot if you shine it in them; deer, possums kiwis they all just keep doing what they do
Which courier do aliexpress use for this end of there torch deliveries.
got a new 2X couple of days ago
sweet light makes my FENIX a little less impressive....
