    GPO Centuri Scope

Right, so i've got a Bergara Wilderness 7mm rem mag with no scope. This one https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....ah-etc-107377/

@dannyb told me he'd had a look at a GPO Centuri 6x 3-18x44i at the sparrowhawk comp and thought it was quite good. I've had a bit of a look around on the web and they seem like pretty good value for money.
    This one https://customguns.co.nz/gpo-centuri-6x-3-18x44i-moai/

Question 1. Any reason why this scope wouldn't be a good fit for the rifle?
Question 2. Anyone got anything bad or good to say about their experience with this particular scope or similar?
Question 2. What rings would be ideal? I don't mind paying extra for something decent.

I'm not buying yet. Can't afford it. Just looking at this stage and becoming educated

Isn't this just another re-branded made somewhere in Asia scope? On the positive side it's got "double HD glass" so you know that's got to be good eh?

I'm actually not 100% sure! I believe their stuff is designed and made and QC is in Germany, but assembly is Japan or China, etc. Kinda like almost everything these days. At least anything remotely affordable.

I bought a pair of Geco binos off ex forum member Sarvo a while back. He said they're identical to the (more expensive) GPO model, and I believe even made in the same factory. And I like those!

Ring Greg up and ask him. He'll give you good advice but remember that all retailers try and sell you what they have (on the shelf).

I did so. He said he hasn't had returns for quality defects and has been selling them for 5-6 years. Says they're assembled in Japan, designed in Germany. Rates them very highly.
I couldn't expect unbiased advice from a retailer of course, but it was interesting regardless.

Assembled in Japan. That's interesting. I wouldn't have thought it would be of any benefit over assembling in Germany. Japan isn't exactly a 3rd world country.

Greg said assembled in Japan. Probably just because its a higher end model. Other online sources say GPO is assembled in Japan or China, depending on model range

Got a GPO Spectra of a forum member a while ago. A bit bulkier than I’d like but glass is good, dial’s accurately and mil reticle marks are accurate. Pleased with it so far. Won’t live on 223 full time because of size but it’s a good scope. Considering getting a 6.5 creedmore and doing FPR or PRS shooting with it, will be more than adequate for that. Wouldn’t have any qualms buying another GPO.

That scope dannyb looked through was mine. It was the first time out using it and I was very impressed with it. In terms of features it's right there with the VX5/VX6 and I'd say the glass is at least on par. Lift to turn elevation and windage, zerostop, 30mm tube, illuminated dot.

Feel free to ask questions. Bare in mind that whilst I like to think I'm being objective, work (Ammo Direct) is a GPO stockist.

To me I think GPO have the edge in eye relief and I’m a long time Leupold user.

My initial impression was that the image is larger to the eye. Not sure what the correct techincal jargon would be to describe that. Blown up onto a larger ocular lens perhaps? Like watching a movie in 1080p on a laptop screen vs an TV. Same picture, just made bigger.

I'm a bit a glass snob and am offloading a VX5 to get myself another Centuri...

Japan has a massive history with producing/assembling optical stuff - more than any other country I would guess. Virtually anything quality in the optical devices lineup 20-30 years ago came out of Japan, it's only recently that China has gotten big.

Well some of the centuri line is way cheaper than their other lines. So I don’t know how the quality will last on the long term.
But I have my eyes on a new gpo 4x16 ffp scope, only 9” long and 20onces, that would make it the lightest ffp in its class on the market.
It is just sad that the reticle is very very basic . They could have at least engraved a few numbers on the verticale bottom line to know what Mil mark you are at.
