    Grayl - water bottle filter

Anyone use one or have any experience with these, thinking about getting one, don't always feel like boiling water to drink and I hate the taste of those chemical pills you can use to sterilise water on the go.

I carry a Fill2Pure filter water bottle. Carry it empty and fill it out of a river when we need a drink, then empty it again. Is a bit different to drink from as you have to suck the water through the filter so need to drink from it holding it upright. We’ve been using it for 14 years and never had an issue.

Use the Hydrapak filter and Flux 1 litre flexi bottle, compressed down to nothing. Hydrapak Seeker bags for water storage, robust, big lids, compatible with filter. Job done.

I also use the hydrapak inline filter and the Stow 1L bottle. Its handy because I can use it to filter water into my 3L hydrapak bladder. Using the filter with the bladder is a pain in my opinion as the filter limits the flow. With the Stow bottle I can use it for filtering into the bladder to keep the bladder clean, or i can drink straight from it.

I originally looked at the Grayl, but they are comparatively very heavy and offer reduced water carrying capacity. They also take up a lot of room. The flexible nature of the Hydrapak 3L bladder and the stow bottle mean you can make them very compact when not in use, and the plug and play nature of the filter system is very handy and versatile.

    Hope this helps

I own another brand of filter (Sawyer), but can't comment as I've never used it! I will give a shout-out to Hydrapak though. I've been using their soft water bottle for a long time now. It makes carrying water silent (no sloshing around) and when the lid developed a crack a couple of years down the line, they replaced it, no questions asked despite the fact that I may have dropped it at some point and had no proof of purchase. Outstanding service!

My wife has a grayl. It’s super heavy and quite bulky. We also have a Katadyn be free and sawyer mini. They’re much lighter and more compact.
