I would add Matahorns in there aswell very hard to get in this country if your not hooked up or not in the army but worth the effort, very hard to wear in but once they are there your mates for ever.Ive seen those bestards at the CD feildays before came close to getting a pair but had just got Matahorns.

Something you need to be aware of is some boot construction materials don't like some cleaning and waterproofing products. The real problem occurs when some proofing products breakdown the glue especially between the leather and rubber. As usual - talk to an expert in a tramping shop or similar. An old guy at Bivouac told me to stop using some products I was using.

    Simple thumb rule.

If the thing even vaguely looks like a sneaker. Even just a little bit, then that's what you're buying. Ergo it won't last. If it looks nice n light, it won't last.

Had a pair of Garmonts for the last decade or so, finally showing signs of coning apart after a fair bit of tramping, construction work (OUCH, silly!!), and a few months hunting. A bit clunky though, heavy and loud, and some knee pain involved, but that could be poor hunting fitness. Looks like they are hard to find here now, too. The lady at the local store looked at me like I had two heads when I mentioned the brand.... Anyway, good to hear what is recommended when it comes to getting my next pair.

Beaseal wax is pretty good stuff too, gets right in there, goes a long way.
