home made fire ligthers could save your life in the bush

    you need
    *drinking straws
    *cotton wool buds/balls
    *Vaseline
*soldering iron or something hot with no flame

    method
    1. cut straws in half or 3rds depending on what size you want

    2. use soldering iron to melt one end of the straw a very little and give it a squeeze to glue/seal the end

    3. get a good amount of Vaseline into some cotton wool roll it around and kneed it in

    4. fill straws with the treated cotton wool roll it into long thin snakes and twist it in (you'll work it out its easy after a few) you can use an alenkey or something to compact but make sure you leave 10mm ish at the end so you can seal the end

    5. use soldering iron to seal the end in the same way as step 2

6.chuck a few in your hunting pack the cotton wool is sealed in the straw so they are water proof but I keep them in a snap lock bag as well for extra insurance

to use cut the straw with a knife, tease out the cotton wool so its all spread out till nice and thin this will take a spark very easy from a flint or magnesium striker, or you can just light with a match or lighter.... I always carry a magnesium striker when in the outdoors no matter how wet they get they will still never let you down

will burn for about 20-30 seconds which is great to get your tinder going if things are a little damp and you can probably carry 20 of these for every one shop brought for lighter cube weight wise

Make up removal pads dipped in molten parafin wax, to use rip them in half exposing cotton fibres

Have a couple on cotton buds in Vaseline but putting them in straws is different

Or just pour some hand sterilizer onto a dry flat rock and light it - only burns blue but it is enough to get small dry twigs going

Yep that works aswell but i think you need a lighter or match to get that going needs a flame not just a spark and so if ya lighter or matches get wet your stuffed? I could be worng been awhile since ive lit that stuff used to use the invisible fame to play dirty tricks on people back in high school

    Looks bloody good.

I like the idea of stuffing it into a plastic straw.

Char Cloth will easily take a spark and burn good too.

Char cloth is easy to make as well, sealed into a plastic bag with a lighter and or a magnesium stick and you'll always have a source to start a fire.

    Cheers

Can't beat hexi and matches or a lighter. And if you get bored you can watch "hexi tv."

I have a old pill container full of Vaseline coated cotton balls along with a lighter and matches in small vacuum sealed bag that I keep in kit for emergencies have found that a full cotton ball with a good coating of Vaseline will burn for close to 2 minutes

    Great to see new ideas.
I personally just use an alco wipe from first aid kit and magnesium striker, goes up fast and always burns!
