I like this set-up. The pockets are probably more durable than the Ridgeline. With the pikau sewn onto the bumbags belt the Ridgeline pockets are now facing to the rear and so don't get caught up on obstacles = not noise and hopefully long lasting. Sewn together, it is a great system that for me can be recorded in history with equal standing to other great inventions of the 19th and 20th centuries like the internal combustion engine, the metallic cartridge case, the graphite flyrod and the push-up bra

I use the same ridgeline 5 pocket bumbag BUT it stays in my pikau untill I get an animal, then it goes around waist and pikau fills up with meat. if you put an old shoulder strap off a clothing bag/overnight bag from one buckle to the loop on the back,it stops it from dropping down and riding on your hips/thighs.

One thing I picked up from somewhere was that if you take a tumble you quite often lose your backpack so it’s good to have emergency stuff and PLB on a belt, which you basically never take off while in the bush. Don’t really know how much merit there is in that. I’m off to the SI for a hunt next week and planning to take only the main pack and a belt with PLB knife and emergency stuff in a pouch. Will day hunt with the main pack but strapped down. Idea being to save weight in the walk in not having to carry a day pack. Usually I carry a day bag in of some sort so this will be an experiment.

Here's what I use - A twin needle Hunters belt with a lightweight suspension kit with a large MOLLE pouch , IFAK , Two Knives , a mag pouch (now replaced by a bino pouch)

    Works really well.

Excuse the pre March photo - this is what I used to shoot goats.

That's basically what I have. Mini molle Belt with pouch for plb survival blanket couple rounds lighter and a bandage. GPS is pouch and knife. Then the pikau carries lunch and a jacket jumper or whatever. Work well

I can't abide a load of shit hanging off my arse. Only bare necessities on my belt. PLB, pocket knife and small pouch with little head torch, paracord & a few rounds of ammo.
All of the rest is in my day bag on my back (a light 35-55 litre - takes nothing to carry and makes a big load of meat a lot easier to carry).

Agreed Tahr. I hate a single pocket arse sinking bum bag I have, hate crap hanging down like rupturing hemorrhoids. For years only had a knife belt around my waste and a sandwich would be stuffed down the front of the bush shirt. Tried all sorts of day packs and hill bags without ever finding true happiness. Then along comes a mate with a bumbag turned back facing and sewn to a Pikau and says ' what da ya think of this'?? borrowed it, tested it, made one up but with the Game gear Pikau and it is totally brilliant. Big plus is that it is great for trout fishing and the pockets completely do away with the need for a vest.

I wear a belt, it has 2 small canvas pouches on it, has a lead for the dog, smoke indicator, couple of spare knives, hunting permits, PLB and can fit my range finder and also on the belt a nice hand made HGD bullet holder. , sometimes a GPS

Then a day bag for the meat etc.

Day bag below and will take a pic of belt later

I am same as Hamish and others. Belt with knife, wee pouch, GPS and torch. Then day pack. I have realised that I am a recreational collector of coats and day packs. I have the original Huntech 25L and 40L day packs. Still going strong. I have however recently had a day pack made for me. Smooth rubberised canvas, single compartment, light and with double seat belt straps. It is pretty quiet in the bush, washes out easily and I can fit a boned out set of hind quarters and back steaks in it. Comfiest carrying day pack I have ever used. Used to use a Macpac bumbag when meat hunting. Swanny pulled down over it made it quiet and easy to slot through scrub in. Went inside carcass if carrying out a whole one. Hind quarters no problem.

I have a similar day pack - a Markhor. Fine for walking through the Ciathodes scrub like what yours is sitting in. But terrible for pushing under schub

This is not similar to any Markhor I have. This is a Huntech Hybrid made by a mate. Very simple, front pocket, no excess straps, no xtra pockets

I have two decent quality stoney creek mult pocket bumbags. One fleece, one waterproof. I stopped using them as I tend to overload them which leads to my pants falling down. PM me if anyone is interested. They are better than the ridgeline ones.
