Tried a belt, once. was a bloody pain in the ass, I like to be able to drop my pack and have no shit sticking off the side of me so I can bush bash without getting hung up or collecting a tonne of gorse etc on a belt with pouches and shit sticking out all over the show. I just run a twin needle bino biv with my Rangefinder and a few rounds in a seperate twin needle pouch and my knife also on my biv, small spare knife tucked in the side pocket and PLB on a neck lanyard and tucked inside my shirt

In the biv I have small med kit, a mercator, about 3m of paracord, rangecard in case I lose my phone (usually slide it in the biv also anyhow) and a lighter. Velcro ammunition holder on the front (you can just remove it if wanted) and one inside rangefinder pouch also. Rangefinder pouch running on one of the bino biv straps so it's the only thing that "sticks out" but I can just slide it round the back if it's being a pain in the ass anyhow, never found it to be a problem though. That's all I need for a trip away from my pack.

That is a cleverly thought out system right there, but for me it would do my head in having that much stuff hanging out the front of me. I really like that we are all different and looking at neat ideas people have to suit their own preferences and hunting style. Very cool. The readers of this salubrious web site should also bear it in mind that Mr Songhurst is from the South Island and as such when he refers to 'bush bashing' he is meaning that the large straight sided beech trees are growing closer together than 20 metres.

I will be sure to bring a pocketful of matagouri seeds with me just for you @Hiawatha if I find myself hunting the gently rolling hills of the north island one day

Agreed, the belts by themselves can be a pain. Sewn onto a Pikau fixes the problems of both.

Buffalo Smuffalo, no bargain bag- the Game Gear pikau was $50 and the Ridgeline multi pocket belt $57 + $10 for the canvas man to sew together and shorten the straps = $117. Half the cost of the Burgalo

Here's my belt kit with all of the usual stuff in it. The game gear bags are great and are rainproof, just not submersible proof.Name: P_20191024belt.jpg

Good. That would be the max I would want hanging off my bum and dragging my trou down.
