ponchos are your friends, the sack like shape of them gets good airflow and helps keep you dry inside.
anything form fitting will result in you getting wet.

Hi guys, thanks for the tips. Weekend ended up being a bit hectic. I'll go have a look at the hunters element and swazi in at shop first up.

I think I'd prefer something on the lighter side - the stoney creek has put me off heavier jackets that hold water and take a long time to dry.

Macpac jacket looks OK but I'd feel like a lost tramper trying to deer stalk in blue or black jacket.

Really. The white oval [in the middle of your face]is the biggie and strange movement. Wore a Swazi Hi Viz bush jacket on a recent hunt. Did not spook the deer. Walked up on lotsa deer recently mimicking their gait. It works.

walked 8km today in POURING rain..it was so heavy I even pulled hood up tight..and I hate hoods...the ridgeline jacket kept me dry....very much so,was rather impressed. and its camo...and soft outer....

Recently purchased a Montane Goretex Paclite Jacket in Kelp Green - hunters green in my opinion
XXL packs down small and weighs 327gms according to our kitchen scales.
Very happy with it and this style of jacket over the years. I’m not rough on my gear and mainly hunt fringe country but happy to take it bush hunting.

I'm using a Macpac Cascade in green.
Very good as a bad weather jacket, and not ridiculously heavy.

Another vote for the Hunters Element Halo rain jacket. I generally think all the HE gear is crap apart from this exception. The halo is brilliant for the price

I've got the new Swazi Tahr, pretty hard to go past in my opinion...... One of my favorite bits of kit & makes a good pillow until it gets wet!
