So I took the plunge and got some dyneema stuff sacks made up 1 for the tent and 1 for my sleeping bag.
The 4L 1 I got for the tent is a crazy 7g saving 41g
And the 8L one I got made up for my sleeping bag/liner and sleeping mat came in at 9g which is half the weight of the domex stuff sack and eliminates the need for stuff sacks for the liner and mat.
They are also waterproof as an added bonus.
They should arrive in the next couple days, I'll post pics when they do.
Where did you get the dyneema bags from?
There is a guy who makes them he is selling them on trademe, auctions for 1L and 2L bags but he can do other sizes on request.
So after spending a few days down Southland I have put the jet tent through its paces.
The night we spent out it was extremely windy and it rained heavily on and off throughout the night.
I was kept dry and the tent didn't suffer at all from that dreaded flap some tents suffer from in winds.
The only noise which would be an issue in any tent was from the heavy rain.
I could sleep on my back or my side with plenty of room which is a nice bonus.
My only mistake was that I pitched the tent with the head end facing into the wind, the problem with this is that the vestibule doesn't come all the way to the ground. There is about a 1.5" gap that helps with ventilation this allowed a draft when the wind was particularly strong that made my face a bit cool but not enough for me the bother doing anything about it.
I just rolled over and faced the other way.
If I am in a situation where high wind is likely I will pitch it with the vestibule facing away from the wind.
Between the vestibule vent and the head and foot vents condensation was no issue, it was definitely cold and wet enough that condensation would have been noticed if it was.
All in all a bloody good setup for anyone on a budget.
Will it hold up to long term use ? I guess time will tell.
Would I buy another if it became damaged beyond repair by use or abuse absolutely.
There is more than enough room in the vestibule for my 75L tatonka bison, my size 16 boots and still plenty room for wet gear you wouldn't want inside the tent with you whilst your sleeping.
Intents Outdoors where also great to deal with and you can buy there gear on trademe, Facebook or direct through their website, customer service and advice was top notch.
Here's a couple more pics from my trip anyways.
Great review cheers
Thanks Danny, im looking into something like this as im keen to start doing some solo multi day missons
What cooking setup are you using?
great review and colour is lots better than orange
Hey great info, hows the tent holding up it looks similar I got this one below in green after my warehouse special was destroyed by high winds on the tops.
Even though its more expensive vegetation pokes through it and embers from the camp fire smoke still burn it and it will rip if provoked.
I might have been better with one of yours and replace it every few years.
Hows it holding up.
So far so good, only used it twice so can't comment on it's longevity yet.
I'm very happy with it. Spent a windy wet night in it down Otago and was very comfy.
Nice one man. I've got a couple of his tents, both going ok. I had issues with condensation in my ones, couldn't get them venting enough. My Hopper II ripped one night in extremely windy conditions (other mates tents - MSR and a Hillberg - both tore and snapped poles too). Len replaced the fly free of charge, so can't complain about that. The pole joiner disks at each end of the tent got flogged out in the wind and the poles would pop out in strong gusts, so I bought replacements off aliexpress and fixed the issue properly for less than $10. Mine have never leaked, although I did get wet through the floor after water ran under the tent in torrential rain and got between the floor and ground sheet. I think while they are cheap, they do their job pretty well.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
