Thread: Kmart/Campmaster "Jetboil"

Yeah these are at the warehouse, mitre10 and some other places but they are all priced about $150. I think complete angler has them for $129 it comes with feet which is good.

We may need to go to aliexpress in future.

Campmaster do sell their products through other vendors, but the item in question appears to be exclusive to Kmart, unless rebadged and sold for twice the price somewhere else.

Here's the 2 different bar codes I found when I got some of these at K Mart Sylvia Park. It would only help if your store had some of the miss-labeled stock.

Just had mine arrive in the mail. Thought I'd give them a go at the price after seeing this thread. 3/4 of the bloody contents missing from inside the box, bloody in-store thieves!

Full refund being provided and have to order another one...

Can you get a pot stand for them?

Full refund processed. Just needed a couple of photos and an online upload, process is pretty seamless.

Replacement order has since arrived. They're not too bad. I'd probably just use these for a cup of tea or trips to the beach etc...

Still prefer the WW2 German mess kits for multi-day trips

Macpack sell a Jetboil brand pot support for $30, I'll take mine with me next time and see it it fits

Jetboil is a waste of money, my BRS-3000T is only about $20 USD, made of titanium and weighs only 25 grams, only can support a small pot, but does me fine.
If you want a larger stove, go for the Kovea Spider.

That's what I use for hunting trips (when I actually go hunting!). People have different needs though.

Back to Kmart. The plot thickens. Had the misfortune to go in to the Whangarei store today. They had quite a few of the stoves in stock despite saying sold out online. I bet there was a cheap barcode one among them, grrrr!

Really comes down to if you are wanting to cook for one person or not, size of pot, etc.
It does what its designed to do quite well, but dont expect more, 25 grams you dont even know its in your bag, can serve as a good spare stove.
I keep it in my pack with a small 120g canister regardless for emergency use.
My mate has a jetboil knockoff, but it didnt perform as good as my BRS and that was indoors.
In theory the jetboil should be more efficient and fast as they are designed as a heatsink to capture as much heat as possible and transfer to the pot, dont know how the knockoff designs compare.
Another thing to consider is the environment you use the stove in and how many days you are wanting to run it for to make better use of gas, etc.
I will probably get a kovea spider at some point, but have an optimus nova i use when im wanting better performance in winter and/or high altitude.
Its great, but comes at the expense of weight and space.

A jetboil and a BRS-3000T, 2 different animals. Jetboil is very fast and works well in windy conditions. The BRS is very good though. Matches well with 550ml or 750ml toaks pot.

Yeah, wind is the big drawback with the BRS, doesnt bother me too much as i mostly use huts, also another thing to consider is finding level and firm ground, as its easy to topple over if your not careful, although these issues present with virtually all ultralight stoves that fit on top of the canister with the exception of jetboil designs. You can carry those foil windshields that do a reasonable job and is something I would recommend.
The jetboil comes with plastic supports to clip under the canister to provide extra support and works fairly well out in the open where you are exposed to wind.

Canister pressure can make a slight difference, but its more to do with the mixing ratio of the butane and affects how much propane boils off in the canister first. Propane has a lower boiling point, so gives you more pressure.
Those canisters are not strong enough to withstand a high propane content, so a blend of both butane and propane lowers the combined pressure.
The real cheap canisters may only contain butane, but not ultra common, if it has a propane mix, you will be better off in cold weather, but remember in sub zero conditions the propane will boil off first and the stoves performance will drop to virtually nothing.
Most decent brands will have a 75% butane to 25% propane mix, so buy the cheapest you find with the highest propane in the mix, they all perform just as good from my experience, it all comes down to the propane content.
The campmaster ones come in a slightly larger size than 110g too, might be 120 or 130 grams from memory.
I use a cheap refill adapter from ebay to refill mine from those cheap bayonet canisters.

You can usually find those cheap butane canisters at mitre 10 or the warehouse for only $6 or so in a pack of 5.
The cheap ones are butane only, but slightly more expensive brands have the propane mixes, in summer I dont care, I just go with the butane ones and is only 75cents to fill a 110g canister!
Its quite safe and nearly impossible to overfill them, the only way to overfill them is to put in the freezer after the first fill and inject more gas into it.
Weigh an empty one with scales and measure the difference in weight.
The price of those kovea canisters and other similar brands in the outdoor shops are selling for ridiculous money these days, $12 for 110 grams? Those things used to be only $5 not that long ago.

If I'm backpack hunting/camping, I want everything as light as possible. BRS ticks that box. It boils water and allows me to prepare shop-bought dehydrated meals. I'd love to say that I spend heaps of time in the bush and cook up venison backstraps every night, but that is far from my reality at the moment.

I got one of these stoves from K Mart for $65 and it works as it should. I compared it to my normal gas stove and primus pot with it's skirt for boiling time for 500 ml of water. The Campmaster took 5 mins compared to 4-15 secs with the primus pot. Still works though, how fast is a Jetboil with 500 m l, the ones I have seen in action appear to be faster?
