    14mm is way to thick. I have 10mm and even that is probably overkill

    I have used a lot of Waratahs as land anchors

    Drive them in full length with a D shackle on the top of them

    Cheap easy and effective

    3 warratarhs inline linked together is enough anckor in most terrain to recover anything or stall any common 4wd winch .

    The best ground anchor I have found is my Defender for the Hilux's to get through @MSL

    The main issue there is, the defender can’t make it far enough to be used as a ground anchor for the hilux. Ground anchor is no use if it’s stuck with three wheels still on the sealed road

    We have another thread on the original winch I made and I still have this one in the shed as well

    I kept the Tecumesh 2 stroke on it and apart from being loud it’s still powerful.
