    Light weight overboot waders

I have been flat out busy lately but have managed a bit of time to brainstorm.....shutup Beaker.

Anyway I have always thought a set of waterproof leggings that can be packed and are light weight would be awesome for wading shallow water or crossing creeks and streams.
Better still without having to take your boots off and slip on some dive booties or crocks like I do now.
Done a bit of a google search and they have all sorts in the states but most from reviews, are unreliable and some perish after one use.
One of our members over there I am in contact with, suggested a few things and one was a product called the Chota hippy. Basically a light weight set of gaiters with a waterproof sock. Only trouble is you need to use a larger size wading or hunting boot with them and still get that boot wet. Not good in winter thar country.

So while the concept has it drawbacks I thought why not an over boot with the same material and a grippy sole that are light, and can slip on over your hunting or gum boots quickly and hold together.
I know most kiwis would just go with wet and cold feet but mine are buggered and if I can keep them dry crossing deeper than my gaiters or gumboots I would be stoked. Plenty of uses besides hunting I can think of where something like that would be handy.
    Any wader makers on here?

a large garbage bag over your socks and inside your boots will keep your legs and feet dry....yes boots will get wet but with water tipped out and dry socks it s not so bad....
did you see NZHunter the other night where Willie was discussing gaiters???? its the first time Ive seen anyone other than myself who wears gaiters UNDER trousers...the trousers slow the bulk of water and gaiters direct it down outside of boots(works a treat on those dewy mornings too).....Greg goes one better and puts neopreme ones on underneath std gaiters with trou over top of both.....
not quite what you asking but close.

I have long neoprene gaiters I wear under my Kuiu ones. Works ok. Friggen restrictive and hot, even in winter.
I would like to be able to keep my hunting boots dry as possible. Mid June in thar country your boots still freeze on the outside and I get cold ass feet when I stop walking for any length of time.
Just spitballing but reckon something you could slip on and off quickly would be handy.

You could wrap your boots multiple times with some of the 5k toilet rolls you have left over from cleaning out the Coast's entire supply.

With enough wraps you would likely get across most streams. Then just shake off the mess into the creek to biodegrade and carry on.

    Easy as!

I looked in to it after a trip which involved a lot of stream/river crossings. It was summer, so cold wasn't an issue, actually quite nice (!), but my boots made one hell of a racquet when wet. There are commercial over boot waders available in the USA, but I came to the same conclusion as you, they get pretty bad reviews related to longevity.

LMFAO Not us mate. We have never bought TP in bulk. Never crossed my mind until I seen memes about idiots doing it. The virus is not gunna be wiped from your ass is it? I don't think there were any reports of people doing it on the coast to be fair. They bought the fuck out of sanitizer and flour tho

But your idea has merit. TP floating down rivers may put off potential poachers of my pozzies

I could certainly get in behind this idea. I always find the wet boots a problem as after a while taking my boots off to cross rivers becomes more of a hassle than the wet boots in the end

Twin needle would prob be the go. Basically just some big dry bags with rubberised bottom.

That was a hallelujah moment i’m not the only one for me too haha. The primary reason I wear gaiters is to keep stuff out and keep my boots dry therefor I’ve always worn gaiters under my pants. Works a bloody treat that way. If you have them on the outside and walk through wet tussock etc your pants are just going to wick that moisture down and under the gaiters into the boot.

Sorry not much help on ideas for the original question though.

I did some guiding with a well known US guide, Remi Warren, and Remi carried a pair of "Glacier Boots" for cold winter tahr trips. And they are simply a big oversized pr of lightweight hip waders that are like what you are describing. According to Remi, they lasted a decent amount of time, and served the purpose. One of the local wetsuit manufacturers or neoprene wader manufacturers should be able to come up with something like a 3mm over boot that fits easily over your good boots, and has maybe a 2mm upper or maybe an wet weather trou type upper - cut the legs off a pair of PVC type dairy farm overtrou. I have a huge pr of waterproof breathable waders here, brand new that may be big enough in the bootie to fit over your good boots, welcome to have them and try them if you want. If they fit, cut the waist part off and you're all sorted.
