The lightnings harness is pretty damn good man, the hip belt is the shit, all the weight sits on your hips so the harness could be a couple of bit of paracord and it would still be sweet.
My only complaint is that the sternum strap slips, but I haven't found a pack that doesn't so maybe its just me.
Go to bivouac, load one up and check for yourself

    Very comfortable frame

I found the slipover pack unit squeaked too much so now I carry a weatherproof rollbag around 60litres on it and that works well with a few stretchies to hold it in place

doubles as a fine camp chair too
Man I used one of those frames to move some gear around in the bush and it absolutely stuffed my hips, didn't fit me at all

Think mine was 19kg. Was really good for a 3 day trip

Fair enough, depends on your build. I don't know how freezer is built so it will be up to her/him as to what suits - I'm solid build and the Tatonka worked well for me - I gather that you are somewhat more lithe and svelte?
I'm thinking that good packs have wide waist belts but it's only a theory

I have an Exo Mountain Gear 3500 on the way K² 3500 Backpack – Exo Mountain Gear. I was looking at a used cascade, but while I was waiting for the right one to come up I started looking at the higher end US stuff - Exo, KUIU, Mystery Ranch, Kifaru, Stone Glacier - there are heaps of them. Looks a sweet pack but pretty spendy, probably going to crack $1k if I get stung for duty etc.

I'll update the thread once it arrives..

For a medium weight pack with a great harness check out Aarn packs. For a lightweight pack with a ok harness check out gossamer gear.
