Interesting thread and an exercise I went through recently to identify a light weight puffer. I went to the trouble of making a table to compare jackets, weight, fill, down loft etc
And ended up ordering a top end Rab jacket, considered the Macpac Arrowsmith as good specs and weight but couldn’t live with the colour.
Discounted the WOE option as simply being too heavy, too bulky due to the lower down loft.
At 58 and no other hobbies, money wasn’t the issue so left that out of the equation.
I got myself a Stellar lightweight puffer (Swiss) 950 fill, top of the range, uber expensive. Brilliant. But, the best investment made was a $60 Macpac puffer vest from the specials rack. That piece gets used all the time and tops up the puffer. Go the vest!
"Death - our community's number one killer"
I use a Patagonia nano puff, really warm and light
The link I put up is probably not the best place to buy Montbell stuff but it was the first one I found. I have had one of their 800 loft jackets for over 10 years now and it has been great. I does have a sticking plaster covering a burn hole on the sleeve now though. Amazing how long the sticking plaster has lasted too

I like the lightweight Kathmandu jackets for the price. Check the fill material and weight. Tend to have a bit more filling than the Macpac equivalents. Cheap as chips in the sales.
I'd be buying a WOE over any of the Chinese made hunting brands. It's a no brainer
I just got a macpac halo with a hood. Cheap as chips. $149 delivered. Weighs 600 gms. Will do me for around camp. Packs down
To nothing
Enlightened equipment torrid jacket , only weighs 240 grams.
Currently trying Stone Glacier Grumman jacket and vest…850+ fill and very warm. Patagonia Down Sweater is good value on sale ($349) and very warm. I think one of the best I have is a Macpac Alpine, very light and warm. Also have First Lite Brooks and Uncompahgre jackets. I think SG beats these. Don’t need to spend a lot to get a good puffy but you sure can if you want to.
Last spring I got myself a Firstlite Brooks Down Sweater.
Only 300 grams, 100 gr of 800 loft DWR ttraeted down.
Has the "Drop Tail" to keep you warm sitting down and a hood with drawstrings.
windproof, nylon outer that I would call shower proof only while new.
NB it is light so not a thing to wear in the Matagouri or bush lawyer.
Meant as a mid layer or light windproof outer, then a water proof shell outer.
I'm up north and its had a lot of use this winter, sitting around outside evenings by the tent or going out for coffee with the dogs and wife when the wind has a bit of a chill in it.
