With main bag stuffed with pillows. Still has a long pocket on each side that would easily fit a spotting scope, tripod etc. 2 smaller pockets on back of main bag are also empty and would fit all day hunting gear other than jackets. Also plenty of room to stack gear under the the main pack lid as it extends a lot above where shown here.

As in catching up on scrub/bush high or weight sitting high? The frame extension above shoulder height seems to be a positive factor in better load carrying so I guess it is a bit of a trade off compared to a traditional short internal frame pack when it comes to bush bashing... I'm predominantly an open country/tops hunter so will see how it goes...

Can get the frame with 24" stays as well, my frame has 26" stays. I figured that the 2" difference in height would not be overly noticeable in scrub but has a positive impact on the load lifting ability of the frame

Some mates and I just went through a similar process over the last couple of months leading up to a hunt in Fiordland.
Easy to get carried away.

I've been looking at the same pack, also the Nomad is under consideration. Let us know how it goes in the field.
Also keen to hear how the gun bearer works for you.
How do you like the quilt?

My gear:
macpac's
50L - 2.2KG,
60L -2.5kg,
80L - 2.5KG depending on length of hunt.

Mountain Hardware -9 degree C bag - 1040g
Terra Nova solar Photon 2 tent - 980g
Therma-rest neoAir - 430g
Cooker is a cheap gas one - 70g with MytiMug Ti - 110g
have also used supercat and alcohol in the past (Aluminium cat food can with holes) good for a weekend.

Above the bush line:
North face down jacket - 450g (Has a hood.)
North face gortex jacket and pants. Forget the weight, but reasonable. Very similar to the sitka in cut.

Also looked at the sitka dewpoint, but as you say the cut is short, if only they added a bit more length it would be great when you are wearing shorts.
I have no experience with the Sitka jacket. In the end I saw no advantage over my North Face, so decided to save my dollars.

Given that you don't want camo, maybe consider regular hard shell? Patagonia M10 looks ok and is on sale. I expect it will be a similar cut to the Sitka, but very light and less $$

Hey claw what do you think of the exped sleeping mat and did you buy the Shnozel for it as well?.
Is it really good thermally.

The Expeds are far king awesome. The down ones are the go mate. I have the standard as I did want the UL but I could only see my dog putting a claw or stick through it. The standard has an inbuilt pump too. Not that slow to pump up.

Yep as KJ said, awesome mats, warm & light. Mine came with an UL drybag type thing for pumping up the mat. Takes about a minute to do...

Ive had a small play with the air one and once I saw how small it packed up and its weight then how fuckn cheap it was ive pretty much just gotta get to palmy to buy one..........do you sleep with your dog and let him play with sticks in your sleeping bag??
