RD1 are special ing the lenser 14.2 at $110 instead of $199.

Be careful of the led lenser's, you want one rated to ipx6, some of there stuff is only rated to ipx4

When you say light the place up, do u mean spot or flood?
My daughter has the black diamond storm and i can see people at the other end of a rugby field. It's got a great spot, with a separate set of lights for near lighting.
I have a fenix that is an incredible flood. It lights up 10m like daylight but next to no spot.
If you want top level I'd suggest zebralight 18650 torches. I am also against lenser if you want top quality.

I was looking for a spot for >100 metres and a flood for <100 metres or there abouts. If SiD is right at $110 then bargain

I happened to see them when I was in their new store in otautau on Friday. The shops were RD1 owned by fonterra but have rebranded with a name I cannot recall!

I have a 14.1 headlight and am impressed w that and the numbers on the newer model are more impressive.

I use a maxtoch torch on my rifle which gives serious light but personally, I haven't seen a brighter headlamp than the 14 series headlamps. I also like they use AAs so I'm not searching for special batteries etc

It may have been a local special but they had a heap on the counter!!!!!

I used the latest LED Lenser H14.2R over the weekend; I'll be getting one! At 850 lumen on boost; it was very impressive. I think the extra power makes the weight worth it.

To be honest I would not bother with anything that uses AA or AAA to power it, they are very low energy density compared to Li-Po cells like the 18650. ie, you will need to carry more weight and volume with anything AA/AAA powered to get the same light as Li-Po. The LED Lensers focusing system (along with all the other focusing systems) is very inefficient when you zoom them so they do not throw the light very far. If you want a headlamp to get you a good distance then you are better off with a fixed head.

I use one of these and it is good for about 300m and comes with gear so you can charge batteries.

Yes the lumen and battery capacity claims are fanciful in the adds but they are nonetheless quite robust and way out perform anything that LED Lenser has ever produced.

+1 on those cree 2000000 lumens over a year old and still good as new . You can't go wrong . I got two now . @gadgetman had both with me on Sunday pitch black and pea soup fog . The dedomed light is what yellow or white ? . The white couldn't see shit ?

Zebralight would be my pick. I have two and are very happy with them.

The yellow is the de-domed one. Ready for the other one to be doctored?

Slightly off topic here, but in the right ballpark. I just bought a vehicle mounted remote control spot light for boating/offroading. I was torn between Hid and Led and ended up going with led due mainly to it being lower drawer on battery.
The light is just too white for my liking, and makes it difficult to see any detail. I am guessing that in foggy conditions the light will be useless as it will bounce back too much.

Yes, the white just seems to reflect back badly off everything in the air whilst the yellower hue seems to cut through a lot better. If practical de-doming will help. Will also give a slightly tighter spot with about twice the intensity at the cost of less spill round the spot.
