Can anybody recommend a good LPG lamp? Most of the traditional brands are very noisy, or fussy about mantles. I've almost given up on finding a replacement.

Coleman that sits on your bbq bottle. But for bombproof I've got small one in a white plastic case about 150mm by 50mm square. Glass is 3_4mm thick. That thing has gone for years on same mantle and just keeps going, screws onto any off the wee disposable cans. It's buried in my camper so can't tell you brand sorry.at least 25 years old.

At the current price of LPG they are getting brutally expensive to feed, thats part of the reason they aren't so available now. Also, carbon monoxide is an issue with their operation. Also, the new generation COB battery area lamps are a lot quieter, don't flicker and also run a wee bit quieter...
I have a Coleman spirits lamp out in the shed and a Gascraft or Great Outdoors LPG unit for the 'just in case' requirement, but to be fair I only pull them out once a year or so just to remind myself how to drive them!!! The gas one is a goody for that, get it wrong and it takes your eyebrows without a hint of mercy.
Modern led lamps have pretty much made them redundant too.

Did I mention how much quieter the battery lamps are? It's not something I really noticed to be fair, but with a daughter on the spectrum - I notice the outbursts caused by the noise they make. I am on a journey filled with learning with this particular creation of mine.
I've been having a quiet look on the camping shop websites, it is definitely not something that you can get at every shop now. I was at a cylinder and appliance servicing place a few days back and I didn't actually notice any lighting appliances - only cooking and a small selection of heating.
Thanks lads...looks like LED is my future.
There's something timeless about the hiss and warm glow from a Tilly lamp. And in a small area they put out as much heat as they do light. I scored a '44 (205 litres) of contaminated Av Gas a couple of years ago, so I'm sweet for the next 50 years running a couple of tilly lamps every night should I wish!
Ouch. We have a cylinder tester down the road who have to reclaim the residual gas out of the cylinders before they test them. They sell it off at a slightly reduced rate compared to the servo's, but it's still not what I'd call cheap.
All the best goodies will have been been burnt off by the previous owners, so reclaimed gas won't be as energy dense as brand new gas. I'm pretty sure the gas we get now is quite a bit down in energy say, from 5-6 years ago.
