    LPG single burner questions

So I picked up a cast iron single ring LPG burner for doing a cook up whilst out camping. It allows me to use a wok and do a big fry up

It came with a simple valve, (fixed air inlet) but seems to be ultra sensitive to gas pressure, and any gust of wind blows out the flames

    Any suggestions?

Has it got like a wedge cut out on underneath for the air to
    Mix with gas?

Yes has wedge cut out beneath. No means of adjusting mix except by gas flow/pressure

Yes I set up a simple wind shield

Good clean blue flame, but ‘soft’.

Trying to figure out if I can tune it to run a more ‘robust’ flame.

Rite it’s the same as I run in my smoker,
So what you need to find , now don’t take the piss it took me ages of trail and error to figure this out
You find a rock that looks like a lemon wedge and sit it in the air vent , you don’t want to fully block it but close it up - move it round to find the sweet spot and bingo ya got a usable gas cooker
Or you could get techo and make some to do the same thing

I’m running it off a 4.5kg bottle. No reg. Standard companion type bottle fitting

Fitting an adjustable regulator was an option I’d wondered about - I didn’t want to overspend on this cheapie, if there’s actually a better brand/model available

Put a hose clamp round air vent move back and forth to change flame colour orange to rich -bluey white perfect and your bottle will last longer maybe try new reg they only 40 bucks . Have had them rust out and clog in the past .

If you want a goody look around for one of the rinai twin burner with grill units that came in the 70/80s era caravans , just put a windshiel round it and you will have a primo unit you can cook crays real fast if you use both burners and make toast in the grill . you can normally oick them for 100 on turd mo .

    Sib,

Make a simple wind break up using 3 pieces of ply wood to go around the back and 2 sides. Use 2 hinges to join them up. Make the pieces come about 7.5 cm above the height of the stove top and big enough to fit your frypan or camp oven etc. When using the stove orientate the back into the wind. It will then go great. Good stoves for cooking and simmer well.

You managed to get a non regulated bottle to fire up a regulated needed ring without a fire ball, you have done well...why we all piss around with gas I don't know...it took me a bit of trial and error to get my 3 ring to run off a forklift gas bottle.

When I bought it, it came with an integrated reg/9kg bottle (CC? - not POL which is my go-to). I asked the gas fitter (yes!!!!) to change the fitting to Companion type. They dropped the reg too and insisted it wasn’t needed.

Not surprisingly it blows itself out if I open bottle valve fully

My opening this discussion here illustrates my doubts over its safety and proper burning.

    Am thinking at the moment;
    Fit adjustable regulator
Conjure up an air/mix baffle using hose clip or suchlike
    Build a dedicated wind guard

The classic folding lid two-burner camp cooker just didn’t have the heat I wanted to run a wok or large frypan, hence looking at a bigger burner
