I have both and the Tatonka wins hands down for heavy loads
I thought I'd been using my 90 litre Cascade for getting on 20 years but had to rethink that when I ran outta fingers n' toes to count on. Turns out I must have bought it around 1993... about 24 years of good honest use. I recently replaced the shoulder straps as they broke, but aside from that it's still going strong and gets plenty of use.
Over the years I've noticed that having 'straps for Africa' is not a good thing when you're regularly utilising helicopter transport options and in recent times I've been giving serious consideration to buying a Tatonka specifically for those trips. As stated above, pilots usually grab the shoulder straps instead of the carry-handle on packs which gives them a hard time. The carry handles on the Tatonka bags would take this without problem and the lack of other external straps means you're unable to hang other shit off the exterior - which equals less chance for items getting caught or damaged. I'm not sure I'd want to walk long distances with the Tatonka bags, but when flying to your happy hunting ground that's generally what your trying to avoid in any case.
As I always tell my kids - if you're given a choice between one thing or another, do both. Horses for courses.
Neither, go for a Kuiu _b
