Thread: MRE and military rations

Been watching a few youtube vids lately on various MRE's and military rations.
I'm keen to get my hands on some for taking out when hunting.
I have found the commercial versions of the american ones via army surplus down south and there are a few of the NZ ones on trademe.

The Canadian ones look pretty good.

Anyone have any ideas on where to get them on the net that ship to NZ ?
Or anyone got a few NZ ones laying around that they'd be keen to sell?

I was looking at some French mil rations sold on ebay by chinese sellers. Not too bad prices. My only worry would be if every item in the packs would be kosher with NZ bio security - like, is there honey amongst it. But it was not that well listed re the contents, so I bailed out.

Quite impressive the USAAF WW2 ration opening episode. Amazing how it held. Only thing with MREs, they contain a lot of packaging garbage which you then have to carry out of the bush, but that's not the end of the world.

The French ones look pretty good too, always keen on pate`. Surely all those products are pretty well treated and couldn't have any nasties left in them.
Would suck to find out that customs had opened all those nicely sealed packages

I've imported MREs before.

They will get stopped by MPI and you'll receive a call from to "please explain". I just told them what it was, processed food which is commercially packaged and invited them to have a look.

I just took away some ‘Go Native’ MREs into the Kawekas. They have a fancy sticker on them, but essentially they’re military meals. The Chilli and Butter Chicken were great, I’d get them again, I had with me a spaghetti bolognese but I didn’t have a chance to try it. I picked them up from Torpedo 7, I see them on Trademe too.

I have seen them around and they do look good, I came across the crowd in Palmy I think who do the army ones and they sell direct to the public as long as you want a box of 12. Seemed like good value

Your ones looked bloody good. A mix of those and yank ones would make for decent variety over a couple of days. Kiwis probably won't have the taste for them though, can you imagine trying to explain pap?

I've got a few of the NZ military ones, they're bloody tasty but are very heavy, I just take Back Country meals when hunting.

Remember that they are made to have enough energy to sustain a soldiers high exertion in combat conditions, you'll get really fat really quick if you eat a whole one each day unless doing serious excercise. I get two days out of one pack.
