    New sleeping bag recommendations?

    Hello all.
I'm looking for a new sleeping bag recommendation. I'm currently running a domex that is comfort -6. Eu standard.
But I've found when tenting or in bivys in winter I do get cold. So also run a sea to summit liner. Which ends up being a 2.5kg set up haha.
Mainly hunt lower south and upper south island anywhere from river flats to tahr hunting in the snow.
Was wondering what people use for their bags?
I have a wanaka and wapiti ballot so closer to the 1kg mark the better haha.
Anyone tried the usa feathered friends bags?

    Cheers
    Simon

What do you sleep on? It could be that you need a better sleeping mat. I run a mountain hardwear ghost whisperer -20f and a thermarest xtherm which together comes in at 1.06kg, bag packs down to the size of a bottle of appletons rum and thermarest just slightly bigger than a pringles can. and more often than not even through winter i sleep with the bag unzipped. This is north island however, although a good light silk liner will loft the temp significantly for winter tahr etc

I've got one of these, and a domex Halo, the halo stays at home as this blows it away for loft and warmth vs weight. https://bootsandgear.com/index.php?r...product_id=410

I have a exped ul with a r value of 5 has been really good. I think they bag I have is also not the best design for warmth as it has zips right down to your toes and is quite large

I have a domex halo and to be honest with a decent mat and a thermolite bag liner it's been pretty good, at 6'8 I am definitely in the lanky bugger category and the x tall version of the halo has plenty of room still both in length and width.
I've slept in some pretty cold places and been plenty warm.
I certainly don't regret my domex halo, and in reality if you do get cold there's plenty of room to wear a down jacket.
Like most we all want something better than what we have, the search for the ultimate gear is a never ending challenge.

Cheers Danny good to hear the halo goes well for you. Seems good value for money. Will out on my comparison list.
Rab is getting just out of my price point point I think.

    Billyburn 2nd period

Have a look at One planet - you can customize fabric, fill weight & fill loft if you choose to meet your desired weight spec or budget if you go direct. Designs are nice and wide at top too meaning you can always wear layers underneath mid winter - and width means you can roll around without bag spinning. Buy direct or from nz importers & cost is much less than domex and rab for similar spec bag. A few delays with recent orders from them I think however

Without a shadow of doubt I would be talking to Blair at Wear on Earth, ph. 0800 9327 63, pretty sure he makes sleeping bags.

Heres a few I'm looking into.
Only negative for this one is the zip right around the feet again makes me question how it retains heat at your feet but guess it's rated.

Domex halo comfort rating -4 1kg weight

Then maybe feathered friends bags they seem nice but not tested to eu standard
