    Pack / rain covers

Been looking at these as I figure it's better to have a dry light pack than a wet heavy one. All seem to be pretty much the same. Was thinking about the green tatonka model at its the only one thats not some bright as colour.

Any thoughts, recommendations or ones to avoid?

bright orange is perfectly ok as would be bright blue...if its pissing with rain, you unlikely to be stalking along stealthily...and if you so shoot an animal, youve got a bright bit of cover to stick on outside for the walk home.... bigger is better as allows it to wrap right around better, but you can also get away with a smaller one only covering top 2/3rds of pack.

My Spika pack has one attached as part of the pack that is removable. Pity all packs do not come with them as standard

I've got a macpac one which is bright lime green. Colour doesn't matter when it's pissing with rain.

Great bits of kit. I’ve had ones with elastic round the edge to hold ‘em on and one that had a drawstring to tighten it on. Much prefer the elastic- just whip it out and on in on and secure in a second, no mucking round to get it in the right place before tightening.

& the color doesn't matter for me as when I'm stalking I have the pack on my back & walking forward so it only be the deer you already past that will see the color lol

Hell no always use a liner with vital gear inside another waterproof bag.

Colour doesn’t matter. I’ve got the bright red Tatonka cover. Goes good. Still use a pack liner though.

I chucked my Tatonka one out lol. I’d rather spray water proofing on the outside and use something inside. Seems a lot of people like them though.

nope, they keep whole pack dry from rain...but no good if you ford a deep river or need to pack float in a oh shite moment.... 2-3 smaller plastic bags is better than one big one. heavy polythene ones are better still. these days the big yellow pack liner I used to use gets more use as a ground sheet than anything else.
