I would rather have an 80L pack a bit empty than a 65L one full to bursting ...

65L or 70L pack for a 10 day Fiordland trip is do-able.... but it all turns to custard if you achieve your goal and need to start lugging a green Wapiti headskin for several days

Doesn't matter how big my pack is I'd not be putting any skin inside it anyhow

Yeah I personally use a 6000cu in kuiu for everything. That supposedly about 90 litres but doesn’t feel like a big pack.

As for food, dehy is really the only option for most meals plus some bars/cheese/salami if you like.

Don’t take to much gas as its bulky, don’t take to many clothes.

I’ve recently changed to the 5500 model.

A 65 litre pack bursting at the seems can start to feel uncomfortable. Better to have a slightly bigger pack that isn’t maxed out.

The weight of the empty pack is pretty critical

Anyone noticed how big the packs are that Roggee on Youtube carries for a day hunt.

I don't often watch his stuff but watched the latest one with his new thermal, his pack was huge before adding the meat.

I have the MR Marshall, bought it from Safari supplies who are the distributor in NZ & also have excellent service / support if something goes wrong (i foolishly broke a buckle on mine.....completely my fault)

Anyway it is an excellent pack, It is 105L from memory and carries very well when fully loaded up - It is easily the most comfortable pack i have ever used.
It has the meat shelf, carbon fiber frame, and can remove the pack from the frame and fit different size packs like all the other major brands do now.

If anything it is heavier than the EXO, Kuiu, Stone glacier & Kirifu - But i knew that going in and am happy with the extra weight for the heavier fabrics used.

MR packs are good. A bit less hyped than the Exo and SG gear but still great gear. A touch cheaper also.

@Samsamdjt You need to be brutal on your gear selection, clothes your wearing plus one dry set for camp, 1 pair spare Sox’s, puffy jacket and a good raincoat.
One cooker between 2-3 of you, one small first aid kit between the party, share as much gear as you can, sort your food per day into zip lock, I tend to eat less when I’m hunting and most of us can copy with some calorie deficit.

Unless your choppering to a Basecamp then it’s happy days and good tucker

Anything "high" is going to be very difficult if you have to bust up through the scrub line, I've carried a Macpac Torres (80+ litres) for nearly 30 years on big missions in Fiordland and while there are better packs weight wize about these days I'd be extremely wary of American style packs if I had to go uphill, they'd literary kill ya (or make you want to cut your own throat).
