Later: seriously though, Im not in the really thick bush much. That pic is the thickest trees I get into nowadays and it's pretty open underneath. It's just the share slogs that have been bothering me. A lot of them in clear country but steep up hill for the likes of an hour or so. And SI tussock. A bit more comfort would be nice. I guess its like transiting from the old hard sofa to a lazy boy.

Mystery ranch do good load carrying, frame type packs. Not as pricey as Exo K4 and a dealer in Auckland if others looking for similar types.

Kuiu frame pack system. Spent1200 on mine and then bought additional packs bags for the frame. Day hunt size, multi night and another for a 10 day hunt. Would do it all again without hesitation. The only other pack I would potentially have looked at before going with Kuiu would have been the Tatonka modulus. The meat shelf/load sling is a non negotiable for me

Recently got a EXO K4. Not cheap but darn comfortable. Nice to be able to fit a bit mire gear in and shoot a meat animal on the way home

I had a Kuiu pack system which was great but decided to give a Stone Glacier a try.
Now they are next level as far as comfort carrying heavy loads.
They have a much better load shelf as it has a pouch to hold your meat and more straps too.
Not cheap but worth it and pretty light as well.

Everyone seems to have their favourite brand. I think they are actually bastards of things and would rather use a porter.

Carbon fiber frames, super strong fabrics & separate load carrying for meat etc...

Dealer is Safari supplies in Taupo, I think the owners name is Grant and he has been awesome to deal with & great support when i accidentally broke a strap buckle.
The type of service that makes you want to buy off them again

We sure are spoiled for choice. Picked up a stone glacier puffer and that things next level and cheaper then the macpac it replaced

IF I lived closer......would be there in a heartbeat to do so....
MAYBE its time to put the old ways aside and bone the huas out for the carry out...yip takes longer and harder to keep it all clean n tidy and still continue hunting..but that skin and bone you carry up the hills just gets chucked out afterwards....possibly boned out front end and intact back wheels might be the compromise.
K2 Hunter works for me (just to poke ANOTHER brand in the mix)

@Tahr Simple solution is to take a grandson and get them to do the carry

Carried a few heavy loads in my 80l macpac Torre. Had it for years and still holding up well.
Liked the look of the huntaway but didn’t fit well. It’s a shame they don’t make it in several sizes

People forget we all have very different shaped body's (backs) just because Bob swears buy it, you may well find it shit when loaded

The eldest is 19 and full time pest control so he's up to it. But Grandad's pride gets in the way.
