Do any brands give "better" reception or is this a myth?

Myth I reckon. After all, don't they share the masts to a large degree?
I recall reading somewhere that the number of bars showing signal strength actually don't mean much, as there is no industry standard on them.

Brand doesn't mean much. The size of the antenna is the biggest factor and a bigger phone can hold a bigger antenna. Also if you have an extra case on the outside of your phone it will block some reception.
And Pengy is correct, the number of bars on one phone isn't necessarily in 'sync' with bars on another phone.

I have a samsung s4 and have had a great run out of it for over 2 years now.
It is the only phone that i jnow of that has the three sensors for my AB software which are temp pressure and humidity and when checked against my kestrel are very close.
That alone is worth heaps to me.
I will try put up a screen shot.

I have always had a good run out of samsung smart phones, have a s3 mini(mine) and a s5mini(work) I like the s5 mainly for the camera but it is too big even tho its a mini.

When I have to have the bosses Iphone in a case its that bloody big its ridiculous and operation is all arse about face back to front not intuitive at all, no doubt you would get used to the operation eventually but in a life proof it is just to bloody bulky, I would never have one for my own phone.

    Oh and big phones SUCK!!!

    Roger that!
I bought a lifeproof case when i bought the phone and just put the second one on recently.
No probs yet and the phone still looks brand new to boot.
    Happy stories

There is no compulsory fucking around with a Android phone these days. Type in your gmail address and password and bang everything is there and working. All your apps, all your mail and contacts.

A lot of things actually work better e.g. I tried to upload a moved from iMovie to you tube. Doesn't work. Much frustration and googling and eventually worked out that you have to go into your google account and change the settings to allow insecure apps to access youtube.

You click on a location in a e-mail on iOs and it takes you straight to useless Apple Maps whereas what you really want is google maps.

iOS 8.0 broke bluetooth audio streaming for gods sake. Thats not a small or unused feature.

After the latest iOS update dropbox stopped working on my sons ipad. No error message or anything, you just click on it and the app closes.

I am not saying apple is a invalid choice but the "it just works" thing is a myth. It's software and all software has bugs. If you use the google services then the operating system that google releases will always have tighter and more seamless integration with google services.
