Mate there's no "special button". It's just the normal PLB "test" button. The same button tests the unit as normal (ie you get the green light if successful), it's just that the 406link bods are watching the skies and know that youve just pinged a satellite.

406link will work with many PLB's. There's a list here: Beacon List. Get one on this list and it should work with the 406link service.

The old boys one is a ResQfix, and didnt think it would work as only 1 button on face (other than the oh shit button under the cover)
i was on the understanding the new model (AquaLink? - clear housing) was a different unit with an extra 'special button', but appears its just the same, and the extra button is just test/msg with and without GPS coords (presumably to save battery)

What do you do when the battey runs out? Can it be serviced?

I believe some units can be serviced but at that stage you would probably find out whats more cost effective, a new PLB or battery
