Not on that specific pair, because I asked them to omit the pockets.

@Frodo what’s the sizing like on the Anorak mate compared to your usual clothing you wear here? I know they have a size chart on their website but physical size compared to garment size seems a fair bit different.

    Thanks

    @Hayden

Not 100% sure if I'm answering your question: but the overall 'fit' is fairly loose/relaxed. It doesn't hug your body like your standard hiking-style stuff. So while the garment will grab your body in the most critical areas (chest, waist and shoulders) it's looser in the arm-pits, at the bottom (over your thighs), and around your neck. Hence it appears bulkier than what it really is.

Cheers man that helps, been looking for a decent wool jacket for a long time, swannie is good but the extra pockets and weatherproof ness/robustness of these is appealing

    No worries mate.

I won't bad mouth the humble Swannie, because it's a Kiwi classic in its own right (and I've got one of their old bush-shirts before they moved production to China).

But Micklagard is on a different level, both with regards to fit and performance.

The shorts are lined? Is that for comfort or warmth?

    It's purely for comfort.

The 'green' lining in the shorts is a single layer of polyester. It's got a silky smooth texture, and this helps reduce friction on your skin (i.e chaffing).

Micklagard have a thicker 'foam quilted' polyester that they use for insulation. It's basically two layers of the single-layer stuff, with some foam sandwiched in between. It's not all that thick, but it does add a bit of extra warmth. It can be found inside the hoods of their jackets/anoraks, and inside their winter pants.

They also use fleece and wool linings in some of their garments. Depending on your needs/preferences, they can substitute one kind of lining for another. Or perhaps you don't want any lining at all - they can do that too.

Linings (listed in order of warmth):

    *Single-layer polyester
    *Foam quilted polyester
    *Fleece
    *Wool

I've had a chat with the guys at Micklagard and they're considering doing a discount for members on here. It'll only be for a few weeks I think, but it'll be a chance to snag some great gear for a bit less. I imagine it'll be in the 10-20% off range.

For NZ conditions, I'd recommend the anorak, shorts, and gaiters.

    I'll update this thread later.

We could do you a deal on a cape.

You need one. You'll look like something in-between Batman and Gandalf. Be a great costume to wear to town. I bet the chicks would dig that.

Right guys, so they've kindly agreed to do a 15% forum discount on everything on their website (including custom tailored stuff): https://micklagaard.com/

It'll be effective until the 3rd of May.

In order to activate the discount you'll need a code - private message me for it.

Just to make something clear - if we get an influx of orders for 'custom tailored' garments, you should expect to wait a bit longer. These guys make everything by hand, and it's only 2-3 people doing all the cutting/sewing.

They've got standard sized garments in stock for immediate dispatch. Check their online measuring chart to see if these will fit you. If not, the slightly longer wait for a custom garment is totally worth it!

    Cheers,
    AJ

    Mission statement

Here at Micklagård, we're only concerned with one thing:
Building woolen garments that will stand the test of time.

We're aware of what's happening in the wider industry. Mass production. Off-shore manufacturing. Deteriorating quality.
Things just aren't the way they used to be.

But we're standing our ground! For your sake, and the environments'.

This is why we still do things the 'old-fashioned' way. Everything we make is carefully hand-crafted in our small workshop - right here in Hagfors, Sweden.
We've been doing like this since 1993.

Despite our hard-earned local reputation, and our strong Scandinavian heritage, you won't catch us boasting about our past.
We do not sell our clothing based on who we are, or what we have accomplished. We sell our clothing based on its ongoing merits.

Whether you're a farmer working in the remote New Zealand backcountry. A hunter in Alaska. Or a forester deep within the wilds of Sweden.
No matter who you are, or what you're doing, our high-performing woolen garments will keep you warm, dry, and protected.

With over 100 years of collective tailoring experience, our team can custom-tailor any of our garments to perfectly fit you, no matter where in the world you are.
No longer do you have to tolerate poorly fitting clothing!

Perfect build quality. Perfect performance. Perfect fit.
These are the things we stand for.
