Commercially, I doubt anything is going to supersede the iridium network in a hurry.
    Especially coverage over Australasia.

Got mine on the $25 a month plan, get 10 texts, plenty for me. The only thing to watch out for is if they reply you pay

You mean the weather forecasting function. Really good in my experience. I only ever download the “basic” weather option (there’s an advanced also) and it gives the forecast for the next 2 days. Alternatively you can just get home to send you the forecast at pre arranged times.

I reckon weather on it is great also and it's surprisingly localised, you're not just getting a "Canterbury" forecast, I was getting forecasts for the exact range I was on

guys, question for those who are using the inReach units.

if you suspend the unit for a couple of of months ($ 6.84 / month currently), do you need to pay the activation fee to start using it again, or is the activation fee only once at the start ?

I am on a Canadian plan. Haven't paid a cent since I suspended my plan.

Just checked my reactivation and there is no fee. Just a commitment for 30 days.

Does the sos feature still work even if plan us suspended? Would be a bugger if you didn't reactivate plan and needed to use sos feature
