Where is the best place to mount a torch, on the scope or on barrel?

Mount on the scope is best, though for a while I did mace one torch on a mount under the barrel. Was easy to flick on/off by extending a finger of the hand on the fore stock.

Always on the scope Dax. Shouldn't get a point of impact change there, you tend not to forget about it and smash it to and it doesn't hook up as much on other crap.

WAIT, don't buy a torch with XR-e emitter, it's old tech.

The model that gadgetman suggested is great but you need to find it with a XM-L emitter, need at least a T6 bin, preferably a U3.

For the best pay a little extra and get the latest XM-L2 emitter. The only way to get better light is from HID spotlight or SST LED's, about $200 from china

I prefer the Ultrafire 502B over the 501B as the body is a more consistant tube and mounts tighter.

I would suggest the Ultrafire C8 or C10 over the 501/2 as they have much deeper reflectors and project longer beam. Or the C12 if you plan to run it for extended time, it has a larger heatsink.

I've embarrassed P7 and P14's with a $10 Ultrafire 501B and i've never killed an Ultrafire torch yet. Add some silicon grease around the o-rings and I've even used them underwater for floundering.

I've had a look on lightmalls, would you recommend the Ultrafire C8 Cree XM-L2 5-Mode LED Flashlight or the UltraFire C12 1*Cree XM-L2 5-Modes LED Flashlight?

I do like the sound of the c12 having the better heat sink.

The XR-E is old tech but the good thing is that it has a small emitter surface area so responds very well to to the very narrow beam treatment with an aspheric lens. The XML is more efficient and produces a huge amount of light on full noise but requires 4x the current to get there. This gives substantially less than 1/4 the run time if used in small single cell mode because of the voltage reductions carrying that current entails. The XML also needs a much wider and deeper reflector to focus the wider emitter surface are.

Also avoid multi mode lights unless they have a memory function. Otherwise you have to cycle through all the modes to turn the torch off. This soon gets very annoying.

@scottrods - Is that the m24 with the single battery body? I bright one all excited to mount on my scope but it won't run with a single Panasonic 18650 so I am interested to hear if you have had better luck.

Most of that went straight over my but I just brought a Lenser p7.2 going to test it out on the 22 this weekend

Bugger. You should have stood a little higher. The P7.2 is the equivalent on an NZ$12 torch delivered to your door ex-China.

True - stick the Lenser P7 next to a maxtoch and it would be a very short romance with led lenser...
