@ Padox , it was a pleasure to make, she's an awesome young lady. I got a big smile and a lot of pride from the photo's , plus she's putting it to use. Nice to support young hunters as they will carry our sport forward.
@ Barry the hunter , thanks for the comments.

Size: 1.92 MB four blades from Tanaka San Matsubara blades Omura Japan - my daughter was there teaching english so I got her to see him and make some blades for me - got them just as blades no handles and put these pieces of antler on - was disappointed he did not stamp them but apparently no as he had not finished them - some lucky hunting mates got one - very sharp

A quick and rough pizza cutter using an old hand saw blade.
Not exactly a hunting knife, but I did cut a venison pizza with it on Sunday night

what I did here was took blades to a water jet cutting out fit and got them to water jet the tang so a lot smaller than supplied by Tanka San - then shaped antler -into boiling water for 10 min and tapped blade into antler ( center becomes soft ) - used dremel beforehand to inlet antler and once blade in used a strong resin to seal antler around blade -should last -if one goes to Google and searches Matsubara blades Omura Japan Tanaka San there is a video of him in workshop hand forging knives - very old fashioned craftsman

How do you find the D2? I'm a fan, but it seems not everyone gets the heat treatment right.

That knife is in the CPM version of D2. CPM D-2 is far superior to ordinary D2.

I think that the original common D2 is a terrible knife steel. Mostly difficult to sharpen and chippy. The CPM D-2 version is a very different steel and is very good. Unfortunately it is not popular because of the hang over from the original D2.

CPM D-2 seems to be on par with CPM 154 for edge holding and toughness.

A couple of my recent acquisitions. A Puma ‘Trappers Companion’ from 1968 in unused condition. From an era when Puma were making top quality knives. Came with box and paperwork. And then a Randall No 14. Stainless blade, single tang, stacked leather handle. Current wait time from the factory in the US is 6 years.
