yeah they ok the finish isn't as good as i like still working on the scratch removal process .keen to see steel performance though had the mean heat treat .high temp, harden alloy plate quench ,cryo in liquid nitrogen, two time 2hr temper 60/61 rc should be the ducks nuts on edge holding and tough to
i like the middle one LOL
Wow. A credit to you.
Yeah, I've read that elmax is very poor under 60rc.
I wouldn't worry about the polish. Bark Rivers finish on Elmax is no better.
hi tahr you should talk to hamish about getting your hands on his test knife .it would be great to get your feed back on the steel and heat treat your the only person i know off that has used a factory elmax blade.also thoughts on the handle material its corian a high end kitchen bench top material
cheers john
about the handle stuff
Corian® combines the strengths of other materials to deliver a surface with unsurpassed practical advantages. It will challenge your perceptions of how a material should look, feel and perform. Corian® can be heat formed like glass, has the feel of silk, the hygienic properties of stainless steel, a high quality appearance like natural stone, renewable features similar to timber, plus joins that basically disappear! With Corian® you can also take comfort in knowing that all but the most severe damage is repairable on site.
That would be great. I will have a yarn with him.
I've got 2 BR Fox Rivers in Elmax. I had a bit of a stuff up with my pre-order and ended up duplicating. One with a Rosewwood burl handle, and one with stuff called CTec. CTec is a very good handle material.
The CTec one I super thinned down on water stones and didn't leave enough angle on the edge. The first time I used it on a deer I chipped the point. Very minor, and easy to repair. But I've consequently slightly increased the angle of the edge to make sure it doesn't happen again. It is an amazing cutter.
The Rosewood one I've only stropped with compound and left the factory convex angle. It still cuts well and after 2 deer I haven't needed to touch it (but of course I have ). One thing I've found with convex edges is that they don't have to feel super sharp to still cut well.
I really like Elmax. Lasts longer than 3V with the advantage of being stainless.
Jeese Tahr, your the forum knife guru now.....
