I have a martindale, the full length (maybe a number 2-can’t remember as the sticker has worn off), too a lot of effort to get a good edge on it as the factory one was poo, the handle also took a bit of work to get it smooth, it now has an 18 degree per side angle, it’s ok but I find the steel, which I think is 1070, is a tad soft.
I much prefer khukuri for chopping, I have a mirror edge on my Reinhardt khukuri and it’s a beast!
@Shelley mines the 18", I don't know what size that is. I cut the top sweep off so its flat not pointy so it wont stab you in the melon if you get too close.
I also agree about the edge and the handle. I took to the edge with a flapper wheel on the grinder and blended it in until it was sharp, don't know what the angle is but I am very happy with it and its not as rough as it sounds.
Made a scabbard from an old fire hose-the layflat type. Made a file up to fit in the scabbard to keep it sharp in the bush.
Also did some smoothy smoothy and ergonomic shaping on the handle.
I had one when I was 14 so a bit of sentimental value there. It was modded as described at the rewanui mine workshops by a fitter there. I used to carry that everywhere in the bush. I always found it hard enough to cut and just soft enough to sharpen if I had to. Cheap not even 40 bucks at farmlands.
Bloody thing got pinched from my mums from the dickhead neighbours when I was in OZ.
My neighbour in OZ had an ex military Golok. That was quite a neat little machete. They are bloody pricey to get but I wouldn't mind one, one day.
I could imagine the Khukri type better for chopping. The blade would have a bit more weight to it than the martindale.
Three knives I made at the September Bark River "grind in" in the States. I worked it in with a holiday and visiting grandchildren. They open their shop up twice year. Well organised and excellent master-bladesmen to assist. There were 80 attendees.
The top one I made for my son who was up on the California fires with the NZ contingent. The other side was engraved "California Fires 2018". Its S35VN stainless.
The second is what I designed for myself (CPM 154), and the third for my wife (a Bird & Trout in CPM154).

@Scouser PM inbound
Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out
First one I’ve ever made lots of lessons learned but should be a functional functional knife once I sharpen it
Two more ready to sharpen this knife making is addictive !!!!!
Thanks Dublin , couple more cut out of old electric hacksaw( pipe cutter ) blade to come
