I just used the heating method for dedoming on my led's, just remove the led chipset from the heat sink and run it for aprox 30 secs and it should just peal straight off.

So dedoming increases the focus of the LED?

yeah sort of. As I understand it the dome pushes more light straight out the front missing the reflector so removing it lets more light hit the reflector giving a tighter hotspot. You loose a little output but gain throw and the tint gets a little warmer more halogen like. That's about as close to geeking out as I can get, maybe someone else can expand on the theory.
I haven't tried the heat method as I read a few disasters with the tiny gold wires gettiing damaged. With petrol soaking it seems to just float off when its ready.

Does dedoming make that much of a noticeable difference? Is it worth the hassle?

Individual choice really. It is a measurable increase in throw. For eg a dedomed original sn is noticeably better at 250-300 yds than the new udpgraded SN. With a good soldering iron its only takes a few minutes to remove and replace and its just waiting time while it soaks in a jar of petrol.

Am using a Fenix TK41 with 800 Lumens out to 400yrds and a Thrunite TN31 with 1375 lumens out to 700yrds.
These two hand held torches have made my 170 hid and gel cell batteries redundant.
No mods, just good new fashioned grunt

Nice lights, no moding on the torches but the bank account would suffer an significant adjustment for those .
It was a real eye opener to me the torch options out there now and how fast things are developing. Juggling the options of price, performance, weight, size, runtime, battery cost etc is a real maze.

Just looking at the numbers relating to throw from the respective sites (given there will be some vagaries in the testing no doubt) the fenix tk41 quoted at 56k lux , the new SN around 73k in standard form and the ThruNite at 74k ish .
With the build quality and US$59.00 price the SN6X-2s looks like a genuine bargin.

Yes it is, and has the advantage of being able to be mounted in standard rings and attached to scope in a reasonably solid fashion.
