And just to hijack the thread further, if anyone has one of the late 70's early 80's green river skinner with the black plastic handle, id like to have a chat. Still got the sheath-the one with JB Vaughan (think it was that) importers or such on it.
Are they the same as the ones that might still be available?

Yeah i have one of those I chopped it down a bit, like I chopped down my Svord that I wasn't using. Have sharpened and shaped it a little more since. Way better. I've re shaped quite a few including the handles, blades and bolsters.

Strangely enough I gave my skinner to a mate. Got one of those bushmans friend type-same green river brand-crappy sheath. Ended up with the BF knife in the skinner sheath.

Yeah that is a nice little knife.
Two of the small knives are underway for forum members, I was hoping to be further ahead but this convid situation has really put the brakes on with getting knife making supplies.
However as the levels drop things will start flowing again.

The Kershaw bear hunter I had was a good knife-the bottom one. Got pinched in a burglary 2 days after moving into the current house.
Second one is its relly the antelope hunter I got for my son. It hasn't cut up anything in anger. Maybe some parries?
The bear hunter became a bear hunter 11 with the same handle as the antelope. All discontinued now I believe-pics are for reference only
I seem to remember the bear having a similar curve to the back as the antelope but maybe not. The Anty seems to be a similar shape and style to the knife shape approved earlier on-more finger grooves though?

@csmiffy , I have the first model Kershaw Bear hunter with the original style sheath and gimping on the spine . It's a pretty good knife for the money, mine has only done 1 deer and as new but they work well.
Shame to hear it's no longer made.

I had an Antelope Hunter II, looked more or less the same as that Bear Hunter but I think slightly smaller (and mine was orange handle). Great knife, one of my favourites I've had.

Lost it in scrub somewhere when a matagouri ripped it out of the sheath. After that I stopped wearing knives on my belt and kept them in a pack or bumbag instead. Looked for a replacement a few times but couldn't find one.

I have a Kershaw Elk Hunter now which is a good knife too, but its a guthook blade which makes it less versatile. Seemed like a good idea at the time but I liked the Antelope Hunter better.

@GravelBen yeah the Anty is a little smaller then the Bear hunter. If the Anty had a handle like the old bear it would've been better.
Apart from the blade the elk hunter would handle well? Better shape than the anty

@csmiffy My Antelope had the same handle with the finger grooves, I really liked it.

The Elk hunter does handle well - a bit bigger, heavier and more solid than the Antelope. Handle is a softer rubber texture and rounder fatter profile, the Antelope handle was flatter squarer profile.

Actually looking on Kershaw website I think mine is the Elk Skinner rather than Elk Hunter, deeper flatter blade shape.

@viper its a bastard too. I had a bear hunter I got off a workmate for a good price but left it in a hut a few years later. I was spewing. Fast forward maybe 3 years won the exact same model knife in a hunting comp-cheering. Helped cut up the first dear in years not long after I moved back to NZ and it got pinched a month later. Not happy

@csmiffy , mate I never use mine , if you ever want another and promise not to bloody lose it I would probably part with it . I've had it 10 years plus and used once so no great sentimental attachment to it.
