Thanks for clearing that up. Is there a clear winner between the two?

How does NZ Topo50 compare to MapToaster NZ which is what I am using?

I prefer this one. New Zealand Topo Maps by ATLOGIS
It has overlays for aerial photos and a good tracking function.
You just have to remember to zoom in on the area you are hunting on the wifi at home before you go bush.
The other is permanently loaded onto your phone so is a good back up.

Another one to throw in to the mix is iHikeGPS. It's my go to for navigation as I find it clearer and easier to use. Unfortunately, no satellite overlay, so use NZ Topo Maps as well. Not a bad idea to have two of these apps anyway in case one craps out. I also carry a spare phone which is turned off most of the time. It's only purpose is as a backup for navigation. Doesn't have any other apps downloaded on it or even a functional SIM card

I'm using the free version of the Atlogis one and it seems to be ok

Had my first play with the app today when I went out for a goat, Seems to work well. Interesting to see a sign that says XYZ Station; no hunting. And going by the app here was still about 1km to the station.... Going to give DOC a buzz tomorrow to check. Think it maybe a case of wishful thinking on the station's part
