Backcountry navigator has an aerial photo layer which is very handy. Need to be online but you can download in advance

I've just ordered one of these to try, can't go wrong for the price.
I had a 62sc and couldn't stand it, especially the battery life.
My iphone lasts almost a week on flight mode.
Sooo does this GPS work through satelite or celltower ??
I think at a pinch you can save some google earth imagery to your smartphone.

There's some stuff out there on how to. I might have tried playing with this a bit but from memory your stuck at whatever resolution you zoomed to when saving the image data?
All I've ever done is use garmin software at home and save a route linking up all areas of interest. Then out in the field you can get some idea of where to head if you're in new country.
Wow , technology's moving along pretty quick, problem is you've gotta pay for it.
I use New Zealand Topo maps the pro version.
Has the ability to switch between sattelite and topomaps.
The NZ pro NZtopomaps and most likely the free version uses LINZ/National images that you can switch to from the topomap. IMO the Linz is superior to satellite images because they aerial images, so taken from a plane and not he edge of space, so a lot better clarity when zooming in close to look at detail. Only problem with this is you often cant see jack in the shadows.
These are the sort of images I get off my app

So has anyone found the holy grail? That is an app with topo, doc boundaries and satellite overlay all available offline? Lots of references to satellite or doc boundaries but seems like getting both and offline might be a tall ask?
I find ViewRanger really good for topo, tracking and waypoints but keen on an alternative that does it all.
New Zealand Topo maps pro has all that.
Just need to make sure the area you are going is loaded onto your map before you go
