I've had a speedi stitcher (an original from the ol US of A) since I was in my late teens. But it got flogged out of the side pocket of my backpack in the Calcutta Airport in the early 80's. If you want to blow $120 NZD I think you would be able to get an American made one, but they are so simple a design that I don't think there is much the Chinese can do to it, to make it fail 2 days after you buy it

Unless of course, the shop is selling you the very same "cheap shit from China" for 10-20x more.

Been caught out with that on more than one occasion.

Ive got one but also ive got an assortment of needles and threads .fishing nylon excellent -new braid bloody excellent .I recycle leather old canvas bags all sorts of webbing (seatbelts make great belts.go to local eco centre in CHCH-old back packs ,satchels etc materials -zips buckles all get stripped and added to my collection .
made numerous slings knifesheaths ,pouches custom toolbelts .maybe not as flash as bought ones but hey theyre fit for purpose and best of all cost SFA.my son works for a certain franchise -hes ace on shoes repairs and has access to heavy duty sewing machine and thread if warranted.
shes a great wee sideline if its a wet day and you retreat to the mancave .trry it youd be suprised exactly what you can make!

Still got mine from 1970, bought from leather supply shop in Hamilton when I was a student making hand carved and colour dyed leather bags and goods to pay my way thru Uni.

Shared this post with my beloved and she was sure that she’d seen one around here somewhere. Plumbed the depths of her sewing kit and bugger me dead, there it was. An original, probably inherited from her Mum at some stage. Could have put it to use a number of times in the past but at least now it’s been rescued and stored in an appropriate place, my workshop.

Currently Mitre 10 advertise them for $79.00. Other NZ Canvas places and Sailing outlets have them from $85.00 upwards.

Lapco have them. Also spare needles and thread.

Got mine from saddlers in Hamilton for $50 many years ago.great tools once you get the knack of them.

Fosters chandlery have them at less than $50 too.
