    Squeaky boots

Got some newish Lowas and the bloody things squeak to the point that my sister's Chihuahua must think they're some kind of rodent and he chases me around yapping at them. I tried using some beeswax on the tongue (that's where the squeaking comes from and it worked for about the first hour now back to squeaking again. I don't want to have to throw them off a bluff in frustration if they start doing it while I'm hunting so any other ideas? I had read you can rough up the leather a bit with some sandpaper but I'm not sure if that's going to be something I regret doing...

Had a pair of gronels, right from day one the left one had an occasional squeak, nothing fixed it, and it squeaked off and on till they finally died. It wasnt loud but it could be annoying. That said they were far better boots than the lowa rangers that replaced them.

Back in the day we used to say that boots would squeak until you paid for them.

I don't know about that she's innapropriately loud, a product of being the baby in a family of five girls, you always know when she's around!

Sno Seal is a better leather treatment imho than beeswax. Apply to warm boots.

Are you sure it’s the tongue? The usual culprit is movement of the shank inside the sole. A dedicated large gauge hypodermic filled with glue fixes that

And clearly you haven’t paid for them.

My old Scarpas used to do that. Resorted to sticking green leaves down the outside of the tongue to stop it while stalking.
Applied liberal quantities of Sno Seal and eventually it went away. Of course that will void the warranty of the Lowa's though.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

As Sib states "The usual culprit is movement of the shank inside the sole"
It does sound like its more than tongue squeak - as even water will stop that temporarily

These boots came from me (not direct to Ryan but) - so I doubt there be any warranty
I have 2 Tibet myself - 1 with my ear muffs on squeaks too and it appears (almost impossible to prove) is inside the heel/inner sole

Ryan - take them into a boot repairer - it must be internal
Bloody strange as you will agree they like new - but could been like it from new - they sure weren't used for hunting where they came from

Keep applying the wax. Doesn't sound like the shank since it went away for a while with first lot of wax.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Got a new pair of Lowas a few months back, bloody annoying squeak as well, only the left squeaks. Seems to bee across the toe crease area. I'm deaf and can hear it, know why now I get mostly running shots.
