    Stove preheating flammable gel...?

A good number of years ago, I watched a person preheat their stove using a flammable Gel as opposed to the regular process ....turn on fuel until wet, light, Wait for stove to heat then turn on fuel again.
The Gel was in a small toothpaste type tube.

It was much safer and controlled than the normal process.

Has anyone seen this gel and know what it is and where to get it?

Gel Chafing fuel, Fire Gel or Swiss fire gel, I haven't seen it in a tube but available from BBQ stores, NZSafety Blackwoods, Savebarn do it as well at a price.

Hand sanitizer the gel stuff is all I've ever used, it was cheaper than the above. It probably isn't at the moment though.

a few years back a mate of mine in OZ borrowed my old MSR camp cooker. Hadn't used it bugger all. Thought I'd better blow the cobwebs out of it. Got some white spirits and it ran like a bag of pus. Tried petrol with it-viola.
Haven't tried meths though. I will say the other spare jets etc were still in NZ so maybe they would've worked.
This was for cooking, not just pre heating?
I think I saw a comment from 257wby about melting polystyrene in petrol for a fire starting gel?

Yip that's stuff is good. Not quite as clean burning as alcohol gel but it works.
If you want it in a tube, cut the bottom off an old toothpaste tube and wash it out. When its dry 3/4 fill it with the gel, then roll the bottom up and seal it with a couple turns of Duct tape. Pop it in a snap lock bag and Bob's your aunty.
