Been there, done that. My son was minding a rescue mutt ( a brindle ? Staffy cross) and brought it down to our Taupo bach. He tied it "for a couple of minutes" to my boat trailer and came back to find the plug/cable shredded. Just another item for good old dad to pay for..

Moa Hunter's idea of going to a dress shop is a good one - they're good at doing fine fussy repairs like that, and they are used to having to do a perfect job. If you can find some more of that material for them to use even better.

+1 for tenacious tape... that stuff just doesn't come off... ever... including if you let it touch something while trying to position it
Excellent stuff for patching torn puffer jackets... especially if you very carefully work it inside the tear to form a backing then do another patch on the outside against it.

For something like mesh I'd do both sides so it can stick to itself through the mesh.
