I like this app because it has a reallygood track function, unlimited waypoints and I can load good aerial imagery for it. You just need to make sure you zoom in on the area you are going on the wifi at home. The other mP app mention has the entire North or South Island downloaded onto your phone but lacks the functionality in my opinion.
How do you save the maps for offline use? I just get a checker board pattern if I'm out of coverage.

Zoom in on the area at home. It will be there when you go bush. Zoom in on the aerial photos as well. Use esri aerial.

We’ll I’ll be the odd one out. Had the Atlogis NZ Topo map on phone but it pissed me off one to many times loading maps and have gone back to using NZ Topo50. Does everything I need. Zooms in plenty close enough, can show satellite image, records tracks ok and records plenty of waypoints. Can waypoint multiple traps and trap lines, animals culled, points of interest etc. When I get home I just download onto Google Earth Pro and save. Can also work the other way or work in tandem with Memory-Map. Happy with my setup, just my 2c.

I also use NZ topo50 with Memory map at home, gives me the best of both worlds and data is stored on my laptop and not in the cloud
