    Soak your stone in a strong solution of Simple Green for a couple of weeks, then boil it, and repeat a couple of times to remove the old oil. Then use a squirter bottle with Simple Green in it for lub when sharpening. You will be amazed at how much faster your stones will cut

    If you have a really flat piece of concrete you can rub the stone on that, that will take the surface off.
    If you clean it up, get rid of the oil, dishwashing solution (you’re soaking in it if you are old enough to remember that), then it’s easy to wash and remove the oil filings after use.
