Something i carry is one of those thermal bivvy bags instead of just the blanket. Its going to hold in much more heat,
Add that to a fly and your looking good.

Start a fire with innertube / cotton buds & petroleum jelly also good for chafing and your good to go

Oh yes my flatmate showed me the inner tube trick! Works a treat!
I will add check the inner tube works before putting it in your kit, some of the new types dont seem to burn well at all!!

eye drops. I scratched my eye last roar and had some in my first aid kit from beginning of season. Getting dust or scratch, they salve the pain and wash out any grit/dust.
lukoplast tape. great for stopping skin rubbing and blisters.
3B cream. Rub some on the tackle and between inbetween my arse cheeks. Stops rubbing and friction blisters esp if hot and sweaty.

A bolt for your rifle would be essential aye @Pengy
@veitnamcam please confirm it is a sock fetish and not a foot fetish

Cotton balls and Vicks with a flint light are the bees knees

Aly - congrats on signing up for SAR. If you are looking at equipping yourself for the SAR team, talk to them on what gear to pack. Don't try to reinvent the wheel as they know from experience what is required and will be on the lookout for know alls who will be filtered out as liabilities. Look forward to your progress

Prevention is better than cure. Get some decent "athletic" undies that keep your nuts and koozer up and out of the way, Kooza.

Most underrated way to save someone from Hypothermia is having the nuts to make a decision for the group on when to stop before you get to the hypothermia stage. So many tramping groups have a hero amongst them who can't see the danger they're putting other people in....

Yeah, that method works well if it is someone you are familiar enough with but they may be grumpy buggers at the best of times. There are plenty of other signs to watch out for though and you do notice the changes and some do react differently. Watch for clumsiness, slurring, even going quiet. Had the Mrs start to go hypothermic on me up on the exposed tops in Nelson lakes before we got hitched. Have had it myself too.

I was practically a drunkard, a shivering, stumbling drunkard who couldn't put together a good sentence. I was close to shelter, got inside a warm room and drank a lot of hot water. Recovered after a few hours then had to rest the day. Horrible feeling.

Might be a piss take but actually a good tool for assessment. I've used it a few times and it's less intrusive.

Yup this isn't for SAR as I already know what they want people to carry, this thread is more for long trips in the bush where people have to look after themselves and what people have found handy that isn't on the normal pack-list hand outs.

I got given a hot drink and was shivering that much I wore about 3/4 of it. Couldn't coordinate the jaw muscles enough to bite and chew.
